| Metal keys: bulky to
carry around and easy to misplace or have stolen.
If a key is lost on campus, it can be used by
anyone who finds it. To prevent this occurrence,
the lock must be changed and new keys issued to
students and staff. If a master key is lost by a
staff member, a whole series of locks and keys
must be changed. Both scenarios cost time and
money. |

Keys can be unsafe
for another reason as well. Often when locks are
changed on a campus, the lock cores and keys are
kept and used on other doors on campus, so a lost
or stolen key might still grant a person access
to another area on campus. |
